Crisanta LS is a type of oral contraceptive commonly referred to as a "birth control pill" or "the Pill" that helps prevent pregnancy. Its active components are Drospirenone and Ethinylestradiol.
Crisanta LS is utilized not only for contraception to avoid pregnancy but also to manage moderate acne in females aged 14 and older who have begun menstruating and wish to use birth control. It is additionally effective in alleviating symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), which may include anxiety, depression, irritability, concentration difficulties, fatigue, sleep or appetite changes, breast tenderness, joint or muscle pain, headaches, and weight gain.
A patient should start taking Crisanta LS on the first day (Day 1) of her menstrual period. During the initial cycle of using Crisanta LS, the patient needs to take one tablet every day, starting from day 1 of her menstrual cycle (where the first day of menstruation counts as day one). She is to continue this for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day pill-free interval. It is advisable for Crisanta LS to be taken at the same time each day, ideally after the evening meal or just before bedtime. If Crisanta LS is initiated after the first day of the menstrual cycle, it won’t be effective for contraception until after the first 7 days of continuous use of the medication.
The patient should commence her next and all subsequent 28-day cycles of Crisanta LS on the same day of the week that she began her first cycle, adhering to the same timetable. She should take her tablets the day after the 7-day pill-free interval, regardless of whether a menstrual period has occurred or is ongoing.
Crisanta LS is contraindicated for patients who have a hypersensitivity to Drospirenone, Ethinylestradiol, or any other ingredients in Crisanta LS.
Crisanta LS tablets are also not recommended for those with a history or risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), significant surgeries requiring prolonged immobilization, known hereditary or acquired venous thromboembolism predispositions, conditions related to arterial thromboembolism (ATE), cerebrovascular disease, migraines presenting focal neurological symptoms, severe hypertension, renal impairments, severe renal insufficiency or acute renal failure, any history of liver tumors (benign or malignant) or liver disease, breast cancer or other cancers sensitive to estrogen or progestin, undiagnosed abnormal uterine or vaginal bleeding, migraines with focal neurological symptoms, adrenal insufficiency, coronary artery disease, thrombogenic heart conditions, inherited or acquired hypercoagulopathies, and pregnancy.
Common side effects of Crisanta LS include irregular uterine bleeding, nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, and migraines.
